Surf Club days

Peter was a keen surf club member from the very moment he set foot into Geraldton. This picture was taken when he was about 24, and includes some of his oldest mates from that era including Hub Mainwaring, Bob Hopkins, Tom Brady, Peter Wall, Bob Abbot, Kenn Sheldon, Joe Boechetti, and John Miles.

He achieved top accolades in the club, as one of the top swimmers and champion iron man. It was the boats he loved best though and his stories tell of rowing from the club at front beach, through hells gates and around to back beach to train in the surf.

1959 at Footy

Peter played footy after arrival into Geraldton. He captained the brigades club to premiership in 1959. When he finally entered racing, I think in around 1968 he used the colours of brigades in designing his racing silks. Gold with a blue sash and cap.

Thanks to Geoff Whittle for tracking down these pics from Albie Watson, who was the bruiser in the team. The James Dean lookalike with the cig is dad, and Albie is next to him with the torn jumper

TapDog making history

The Dog made history when he won the Geraldton Gold Cup for the third time.

This day was the most emotional day I've had in racing. It was historic and it was poignant. Our family was deeply touched by what it all meant, and felt it was the perfect tribute to Peter H Day.

Northam Cup, 2005

We had set the Dog for a tilt at the Northam Cup. Had a great day out at the races, with the train from Perth with a whole bunch of us. Sadly we had a bit of trouble getting Dog there from Gero and he arrived on track agitated and worked up.

We had a lot of fun and enjoyed the day out.

The Narngulu Sheds...an endeavor

Dad built these sheds with his mate Hub Mainwaring from 94-98. It proved to be a very good venture as the market for weatherproof bulk storage was strong. A lot of hard work went into their construction and we all heard a lot about them.
